OpenHack is a celebration of Open Source hosted by Devexperts. It will be similar to a hackathon, but our main focus will be Open Source. Join us to find interesting projects, meet like-minded professionals, hone your skills and gain experience. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to growing the global Open Source community.
OpenHack is an online event, which will be taking place throughout October.
Absolutely. Both individuals and teams of up to five members are welcome to participate. However, given the community-driven subject, we suggest you join a team so you can learn more about the philosophy of Open Source. Teamwork can also bring you positive emotions and give you a chance to learn new things from your peers.
No problem! We can help you create a new team or join an existing one. Just use our matchmaking platform after you register.
Everyone. We will be happy to welcome all specialists with all kinds of backgrounds including business analysis, design, testing, technical writing, etc. Be sure to invite your friends!
During the hackathon, you have to create at least three pull requests that solve the issues of the project you will be working on.
All participants must be at least 18 years old.
We will be using the most convenient and popular means of communications such as Zoom, Hangouts, Slack, Telegram, and Discord. You will be sent details beforehand.
Great job already! We’ll put you in touch with the maintainer of the project you’ve selected. Check back on September 30 to get all the necessary details and agendas.
You can use any software you need as long as it is legal in your location.
You bet! Actually, it is our goal to help everyone get to know Open Source: open issues, create PRs, and work with Git, CLI, and desktop applications. We’ll be sharing our knowledge base that covers all these subjects (you will find the links in public chats). In addition, some local experts will be attending the event and you’ll be invited to join self-support chats.
We’ve selected such a time frame so everyone can take their time and complete the tasks at a comfortable pace.
We appreciate your initiative! The only thing we need is a permission from the project maintainer. If you are the maintainer, we’ll include the project in OpenHack. If the maintainer is someone else, we’ll try to get in touch with them and get their consent to include it in the agenda.
While competition is not the main objective of the event, we will be rewarding the team and the participant with the most substantial input. A special jury will be selecting them. All active participants will receive special prizes.
The event is intended for your non-working time, which is why you’ve got the whole month to participate. However, if any of the projects is directly related to your responsibilities and you can use it in your work, discuss with your manager if you can put in your working hours for it. Remember that you can submit Open Source projects for participation in OpenHack up until mid-September.
Feel free to reach out to us in our Discord channel or use openhack@devexperts.com. We’ll be happy to assist you!
